FUNCTIONAL Movement Screening (FMS)
The idea behind functional movement is to stabilize the body before you begin training it in mobility. Most of us, athlete or not, has had, at least, mild injury or just natural wear and tear on the body. As a result we learn to adjust our movement to overcompensate for the weakness or injured areas. FMS is designed to identify those weaknesses and allows the trainer to help design a more accurate workout plan to build the weak areas to create balance within the body. Therefore reducing pain and injury to muscles that are overcompensating for weaker areas. Think of it like building a house. A strong house is built on a strong foundation. Once the body is stabilized then you can begin to add weight to build strength.
With athletes entering their primary sport at younger ages this puts them at risk of putting wear and tear on specific areas of their body at an earlier age due to the fact they are not in multiple sports using different movements. While you can never completely take away risk of injury, the FMS can help them to identify their weaknesses and create a work out routine that will help them to fully support their talents.
Kinesio Physical Therapy has been trained in the Functional Movement Screening. If you have a young athlete or are someone who wants to continue to live an active lifestyle this screening is for you!
Functional Movement Screening Package: $150.00
The FMS screening takes about an hour and a half to two hours. You will go through a series of movements to test and look for weaknesses from head to toe. After the screening is complete our therapist will put together a workout regimen and go through them with you. They will give you directions on how often to work on your customized workout routine.
